Art Samberg's profile

Historic Hudson Valley

Arthur J. “Art” Samberg joined the financial services industry as a security analyst for Kidder Peabody in 1969, the year he earned his MBA from Columbia University. He formed his own firm, Dawson Samberg Capital, in 1985, serving as president until 1999, when he founded Pequot Capital Management, Inc. The firm closed in 2009 when he stepped down to establish Hawkes Financial, LLC, a family office. In addition to his duties at Hawkes, Arthur J. “Art” Samberg sits on the boards of several cultural and philanthropic organizations, including College Summit, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and Historic Hudson Valley.

In 1951, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., founded Sleepy Hollow Restorations, an educational organization dedicated to the preservation of historically significant artifacts of the Hudson River Valley, including its landscape, architecture, and culture. Over the next several years, he acquired historically significant properties in the valley and donated them to the organization. After his death in 1960, his sons carried on his legacy, particulary by arranging for the Rockefeller estate Kykuit to be operated as a museum by Historic Hudson Valley.

Historic Hudson Valley today operates tours at the following five properties, all in Westchester County:
- The Philipsburg Manor House in Sleepy Hollow
- Sunnyside, Washington Irving’s estate in Tarrytown
- Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson
- The Union Church of Pocantico Hills
- Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate in Pocantico Hills
